The current inequitable distribution of land and access to resources in South Africa has been roots in the country’s history. That was caused by the apartheid regime where the land was taken from former homelands by whites.
It’s still a problem in South Africa for black people to get access to land. Major of black people are residing on information settlement, where they don’t have rights to occupy the land and they do not get access to services and other resources that will better their socio- economic status.
The majority of black substance farmers are farming in the information square camps, where they do not have right to occupy the land. They have no access to funding as the funding requires title deeds, lease agreements and letter that authorize one to use the land. Of which substance farmers have no rights to use the land, so that make it impossible for them to access funding.
Land governance In South Africa It mananger through frameworks and policies, that made it difficult for majority of rural communities to have access to land. Framework and policies includes land reform, that has different framework such as land redistribution, land restitution, land administration, land registration and also expropriation of land.
These policies were implemented, South Africa government purchased the land and give to the beneficiaries that will leass that land for period of 30 years, that was done throug land redistribution. Land governance aim through land redistribution was to provide equitable access to land and security of tenure, to contribute to improvements of social m, economic and environmental conditions. With good governance provides benefits from land and natural resources, in equitably distribution to all genders, youth and disabilitie citizens.
Effective land management reduce social tension and promote economic growth and poverty reduction. When good governance exists better decisions are made.
There is an issue which regards land reform beneficiaries, majority of projects fail. The majority of beneficiaries their focus is about getting funding, they do not care about getting knowledge and skills. When Agricultural Advisors visit a farm, farmers always expect that there’s funding. In my opinion if governance before funding farmers 🚜 they first focus on capacity building interms of human assets improvement. So that farmers ca have a full understanding, and not always think that governance will do things for them, but become entrepreneurs.
The issue it’s still a big challenge.
